"Compassion and Wisdom: A Reflection on the Management of the Medical Affairs Department and the Information Department"
In the busy medical institution, every day is a race against time and life. However, at noon today, an ostensibly ordinary yet profoundly meaningful experience deeply touched my heart, giving me brand-new thoughts on management, care, and responsibility.
As an ordinary employee, I was extremely tired at the workplace this noon and wanted to find a place to take a nap. I originally thought I would face various restrictions and rebukes. Unexpectedly, the director of the Medical Affairs Department showed touching understanding and tolerance. His gentle eyes were filled with concern, and a kind smile hung at the corner of his mouth. He said softly, "Kid, if you're tired, have a good sleep. Only when you're well-rested can you work better." His voice was like the warm sun in spring, warm and powerful. He gently drew the curtains for me to block the dazzling sunlight. That careful gesture was as if he was protecting a precious treasure.
The behavior of this director of the Medical Affairs Department reminded me of the compassion and tolerance conveyed in the "Heart Sutra". "The Bodhisattva of Compassion, when practicing the profound Prajna Paramita, perceives that the five aggregates are all empty and overcomes all suffering." This means that true wisdom and compassion can perceive the essence of all things in the world and eliminate all pain and difficulties. The director understood the hardships and fatigue of us employees. He knew well that only by allowing us to have proper rest could we serve patients with more enthusiasm and energy. This understanding and tolerance is precisely a manifestation of compassion.
In contrast, the director of the Information Department was inferior in management methods. He always wore a serious face with knitted brows, as if constantly looking for the mistakes of the employees. His sharp eyes were like sharp swords, making people dare not look at him directly. When he saw an employee taking a short break during working hours, he would glare angrily and shout loudly, "How can you be lazy and sleep during working hours!" His voice was sharp and harsh, making people tremble involuntarily.
The "Diamond Sutra" mentions, "All phenomena are illusory. If one sees that all phenomena are not as they appear, one will see the Tathagata." This tells us not to be deceived by superficial phenomena but to see the essence of things. The director of the Information Department only saw the superficial phenomenon of employees sleeping at the workplace but did not deeply think about the underlying reasons and did not realize that the employees might be physically and mentally exhausted due to long periods of high-intensity work. He did not fundamentally solve the problem but blindly criticized and punished. This short-sighted management method is undoubtedly illusory and cannot truly solve the problem nor win the respect and trust of the employees.
The practice of the director of the Medical Affairs Department not only reflects his care for the employees but is also a wise management method. He understands that employees are the most important assets of the medical institution. Only by caring about the physical and mental health of the employees can the work efficiency and service quality be improved. His people-oriented management philosophy coincides with the wisdom in the "Heart Sutra" and the "Diamond Sutra". With compassion and wisdom, he has created a working environment full of care and support for us.
The management method of the director of the Information Department, on the other hand, reflects his deficiency and insufficiency in management. He did not realize that excessive strictness and indifference would only lead to the resistance and negative emotions of the employees and ultimately affect the working atmosphere and effect of the entire department. He did not use wisdom to perceive the essence of the problem, nor did he care for the employees with compassion. Instead, he blindly pursued superficial order and norms. This approach is undoubtedly putting the cart before the horse.
In today's highly competitive medical environment, an excellent manager should be like the director of the Medical Affairs Department, integrating compassion and wisdom into management. They should not only focus on the results and efficiency of work but also care about the growth and development of the employees and their physical and mental health. Only in this way can the enthusiasm and creativity of the employees be truly stimulated, the cohesion and combat effectiveness of the team be enhanced, and more high-quality medical services be provided to patients.
At the same time, as employees, we should also learn lessons from this experience. We should learn to understand the difficulties of the managers, actively cooperate with the work, and also learn to arrange working and rest time reasonably to maintain a good working state. When facing different management methods, we should have our own thinking and judgment, not blindly follow, nor easily complain, and deal with various challenges at work with a positive attitude.
In conclusion, this experience at noon today made me deeply realize the importance of compassion and wisdom in management. The kind act of the director of the Medical Affairs Department moved me deeply and also filled me with confidence and anticipation for future work. The practice of the director of the Information Department serves as a warning to me, constantly reminding myself to maintain a heart of compassion and wisdom in the process of management and being managed and jointly contribute to the development of the medical cause.
May we all be able to comprehend the wisdom of the "Heart Sutra" and the "Diamond Sutra" at work, be compassionate, and be led by wisdom to create a better future.
